Double check
It is possible to put a king in check from 2 pieces at the same time. Let us see how this can happen.
If you look at diagram 1 you should be able to see that if the white bishop on d4 moves somewhere else, then the black king will be in check from the white rook on d1.
In other words we have a discovered check.
In diagram 2 the bishop has moved to b6 where it is also putting the black king in check.
The black king is in check from the bishop and the rook at the same time. This is called double check.
Black can only get out of this by moving his king. It is no good playing Nxb6 and taking the bishop with his knight because the king would still be in check
from the rook.
It is no good playing Rd5 and moving his rook to d5 because the king would still be in check from the bishop.
When a player's king is in double check he must move his king.
